Michael J. Maduell is President, Founder, and a Board Member of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI). Under his leadership, SWFI has grown dramatically in prestige, global reach, and clients. SWFI provides research, intelligence and data to investment banks, asset managers, asset owners, private equity firms, law firms, universities, governments, and corporations.
Among other inventions, Michael co-invented the Linaburg-Maduell Transparency Index, a method of rating transparency in respect to sovereign wealth funds.
Michael's research and the Institute's data products have been referenced in thousands of academic papers and respected journals, and in prominent media outlets.
He received his Master's in Investment Management and Financial Analysis from Saint Mary's College (Moraga, CA) and a Bachelor's in Finance and Risk Management from California State University, Sacramento. He worked at the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Reuters, and founded the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute in 2008.
Michael has held discussions with CEOs, CIOs, Ministers of Finance, Central Bank Governors, members of the executive branch of governments, and other officials.

A fourth-generation Californian
Michael Maduell was born in San Leandro, CA. His father, Robert (Bob) Maduell, was a procurement engineer at Hewlett Packard, and his mother, Phuong (Linda) My Lam, was a Vietnamese war refugee who supported the U.S. as a language translator.
He is the grandson of Charles Edward Maduell, who founded Anamet Laboratories, Inc. in Berkeley, California, and a descendant of Carlos Maduell of Tortosa, Spain, who immigrated to New Orleans in the 1800s working for the Avendano Brothers.
